History as written on the Hermann historic District Walking Tour: A half-timber building with brick noggin was built by J.B. Idermann in 1840. John Quant Jr. bought the building in 1858 and added a brick first floor under the 1840 building and an adjoining frame addition.  The house was also owned by Friedrich Kraemer who was a shoe cobbler. He had his cobbler shop in what is now called the Cobbler Suite.

The doors and several inside features of the home reflect the distinctive Missouri-German architecture as mentioned in “The Arts & Architecture of German settlements in Missouri” by Charles Van Reavenswaay.

A picture of one of the doors was featured in Country Living.

We purchased the home in 1994 and it was originally called the Patty Kerr, after Nancy’s mother, Patricia Kerr. Later the Cobbler Room and Cottage was added to reflect the history of the home. While upgrading many aspects of the home, the original doors and windows were donated to the Daniel Boone Farm.

The old smoke house dates back to between 1892 and 1898.
